Daido Moriyama developed his grainy black-and-white style in Tokyo, where he began taking photographs in the 1960s. From 2004, he worked on a series in Hawaii, capturing the island's landscape and inhabitants with breathtaking immediacy. His unusual perspectives provide insights into the everyday life of a westernised culture and paint a picture beyond the familiar stereotypes of an exotic paradise.
