Additional Information
In Brandt’s first book, “The English at Home” (1936), he juxtaposed the privileged and working classes, frequently using his friends and family as subjects. Pratt, the stern parlourmaid in the country house of one of the photographer’s wealthy uncles, was a particular favorite of Brandt's, perhaps because she so thoroughly inhabited her role.

Pratt, das strenge Stubenmädchen im Landhaus eines wohlhabenden Onkels des Fotografen, war ein besonderer Liebling von Brandt, vielleicht weil sie ihre Rolle so ernsthaft erfüllte.
