Additional Information
Every few years, the Eiffel Tower receives a new coat of paint. For this purpose, painters used to climb the beams of the tower without safety equipment in the past. The photographer wrote on taking this picture: “While painting the Eiffel Tower, this fellow – nicknamed Zazou – was perfectly relaxed. But I felt dizzy and had to close my eyes every time he leaned over to dip his brush in the paint can”. When Marc Riboud was able to publish the image in Life Magazine in 1953, it brought him the recognition of the Magnum founders and finally the membership in the legendary photo agency.

Zusätzliche Information
Alle paar Jahre erhält der Eiffelturm einen neuen Anstrich. Zu diesem Zweck kletterten die Maler in der Vergangenheit ohne Sicherheitsausrüstung auf die Balken des Turms. Der Fotograf schrieb zur Aufnahme dieses Bildes: "Beim Streichen des Eiffelturms war dieser Bursche - Spitzname Zazou - völlig entspannt. Aber mir wurde schwindlig und ich musste jedes Mal die Augen schließen, wenn er sich vorbeugte, um seinen Pinsel in die Farbdose zu tauchen. Als Marc Riboud das Bild 1953 im Life Magazine veröffentlichte, brachte es ihm die Anerkennung der Magnum-Gründer ein und führte schließlich zur Mitgliedschaft in der legendären Fotoagentur.
