The Milan born graphic artist was one of the first Italians to follow the example of the Bauhaus. From the 1930s he devoted himself to abstraction and processes such as solarisation and photograms, also worked for the theatre and created experimental films. His photographs do not reproduce the appearance of objects, but visualize abstract concepts by means of reflections, transparency, light and shadow. In the "Kinetic Study", colourful shapes seem to change their contours. This effect as well as their colour spectrum refer to the wave-physical basis of colour vision.
